Colombo: At least two people were killed and several others injured in a clash between inmates at a prison in Sri Lanka's western coastal town of Negombo on Sunday.
According to a prison official, the clash erupted between two rival groups of inmates at the overcrowded prison.
Prison authorities transferred 34 critically injured inmates to Negombo Hospital for treatment.
During the unrest, a group of female inmates climbed onto the rooftop to protest against the spread of dengue fever inside the prison, police said.
The Special Task Force of the police was deployed to bring the situation under control.
